Sharing

Guess whose new DS game they are all playing? That would be mine. For the record, I did get to play it once. But I had two small children breathing down my neck and offering suggestions. It was sooo relaxing.

(And if you are wondering what Charlie is wearing on his head, it is a koala mask that we got at the San Diego zoo last year.)

Charlie's Note Of The Day

Charlie helped his friend build his puzzle. He said "It's teamwork."

(This is an obvious Wonder Pets influence.)

Charlie's Note Of The Day

Everyday, Charlie comes home from school with a paper that tells us what he has done that day. The school he goes to makes a concerted effort to make sure the kids get exposed to all the basic stuff they will need to know as human beings. For example, there is a section for gross motor skills, life skills, language, science, and music. And in the summers they do a whole international program where they pick a country each week, and the kids learn about the culture, language, games and food of that particular country.

And I am always interested in what he has been doing that day. But the best part of the report is at the very bottom where the his teacher writes a short comment or story about something he has done or said. So, to sooth my guilt about putting these papers in the recycling everyday, I am going to start recording the cute or funny ones. I am not a scrapbook person. And I know myself well enough that adding it to the blog is the only way it will get recorded for all time. Besides, I make this blog into a book each year, so I am not a total loser mom. Right?

An Open Letter to Sesame Street (From Charlie)

Dear Sesame Street,

I don't know who this "Cookie Monster" is that you keep talking about. But the real name is Cookie Dinosaur. And he is red (with horns), not blue. Please try to get it right in future episodes.

Your fan,

Charlie

AJ Explaining The iPad

Charlie In His New Soccer Jersery

Charlie takes saying "Cheese" very seriously.

A Non-Update

Why a non-update? BECAUSE I AM NOT DOING ANYTHING!!!!!!!

Why sure, I have gotten a book almost read, some t.v. watched, and many naps taken. But when your biggest accomplishment is getting one load of laundry folded, that is just sad.

I know my job is to recover right now. And I am. I am doing better all the time. I even walked down to the mailbox today (with my bodyguard, Shawn) and got the mail. It was a whole two houses down the block! Baby steps.

I think I am having a problem with the recovery because I have nothing to show for the pain. The last time I had this type of operation, I got this out of it:

And this time I got nothing. I should have kept the stupid purple socks they made me wear.

The Surgery Is Done!

The surgery went really well. There was a little more going on in there then what the doctor had bargained for, but it all turned out just fine. When he came out to talk to Shawn he told him that I will get relief from problems I didn't even know I had.

And then there was the part where I was rolled into the OR and the anesthesiologist asked me if I was nervous. When I said "Yes" he said: "I have something for that." Anesthesiologists always think they are soooo funny.

Despite the pain from the actual incision, I feel much better already. I guess the best way to describe it is "empty".

The hospital stay was ok. You don't get a lot of rest in the hospital with all the people constantly coming in to take your vitals and make sure you haven't croaked. But the nurses were nice and for the most part, I felt well cared for.

My friend Deborah sent me to the hospital with magazines, waterless toothbrushes, aloe wipes and that "As Seen On TV" thing that allows you to shave without water just by rubbing the thing along your skin. It was a nice little care package and it came in handy. The only thing I wish I had brought was a bandana or something to cover my hair. I wasn't allowed to take a shower and my hair was just beyond gross.

I have a friend who had similar surgery about 4 years ago. She said that I should not even bother bringing a book to the hospital. She said I wouldn't have the attention span to read a book. I showed her. I read the first 11 pages of my book. Four times.

Glad it's over. Glad to be home. And feeling grateful to have such a good support network.

Sun Tea

Look! I'm using solar power. And boy did it work. I had to use oven mitts to bring the thing in. I guess if you are going to brew tea, B-R-E-W tea.

I Have Given Birth To Fish

We are getting a lot of use out of the pool. Even though it was 105 out today, it actually felt chilly when we were in the pool this evening. It is amazing what you get use to.

After about a half hour of catching Charlie when he jumped in, I got the "goldfish" (his term) out. He loved it and I didn't feel like he was dislocating my back (Is that even possible?) every time he jumped in. A win/win.

Checking Out The WIldlife In The Backyard

This bunny has the most ginormous ears. He comes and eats grass in our yard every night. At this rate we may be able to stop mowing.

Random Update

Yesterday was a really fun day. My friend Brittney and I went and saw the movie The Switch. Such a funny movie. And Jason Bateman is great in it. It is a bit of a chic flick, but I think most guys would like it too. Unless you are a guy whose mate is pressuring you to have a baby. Then the movie might cause you to have "the talk". So, if that is the case, then skip it.

Later that night, Deborah had arranged a dinner in honor of my upcoming uterus extraction. There was food, wine and a lot of laughing. You can't beat friends who will help you celebrate milestones- no matter how weird.

Tonight, Charlie has his first soccer practice (read: play date that happens to include a soccer ball). It should be fun. Charlie likes anything that involves running and kicking a ball, so he should be a natural. I will try to remember to take video. It should be some good comedy. I will post pictures soon.

Hanging Out In The Pool

Another School Year, Another Political Campaign

There is a VERY large field of candidates. There is nothing like elementary school issues to bring out the activist is people.

Honesty

AJ to Charlie: Who is your favorite brother?

Charlie: Zeena. (the cat)
