A Surprise

Charlie: Mom, I'm going to make you a surprise.

Me: Great! I can't wait!

2 minutes later. . .
Charlie: Can you open the bread for me?

2 minutes after that. . .
Charlie: Can you open the turkey?

2 minutes after that . . .
Charlie: Can you open the cheese?

The suspense is killing me.

Just Call Her Florence

Zeena always knows when I'm not feeling well, and will come sit with me. She also makes sure that she is touching me, even if it's just a paw.

Only 364 More Days

Shawn and Charlie walk in the house with smoothies.

Me: You didn't  get me a smoothie? Don't you love me?

Charlie : We loved you yesterday.

In case it was unclear, my birthday is OVER.

Best Birthday Present Ever

After a breakfast made by AJ and Shawn (and waitered by Charlie), I was presented with this:

The Hummingbird Battle Continues

AJ and I have an ongoing contest about who can take the best picture of a hummingbird. This is my latest entry.

Who Knew Getting The Carpet Cleaned Could Be So Much Fun?

Charlie thought we should keep the furniture this way permanently. It is more fun this way, and more conducive to making spaceships and forts.

But he even liked the empty living room.  We found him fast asleep in the middle of the floor.

Times Are A-Changing

My foot and AJ's shoe. Check out the distance between my toes and his sneaker. I swear he grows an inch a week.

My Everest

I bought a cookbook recently that shows how to make just about anything from scratch. I have been trying it out. Why? Just to see if I can do it.

So far I have made mayonnaise, wheat bread and pasta. Today I tried marshmallows. This is what they look like right out if the mixing bowl. I have to wait 12 hours and then cut them into squares.

Now I just need to call up my friend with the fire pit, and make some s'mores.

I'm writing each of my kindergarten students a little note to give to them on the last day. Just a few sentences of encouragement. I broke out the fancy stationary. I figured it was a good investment. :)

This Year Was A Hot Mess, But They Were My Hot Mess

I get so emotional this time of year.

I was interviewing the kids about their school year and writing down the answers for an end of the year project. I asked one student what the coolest thing he learned was. When he said: "learning to read" I lost it. Tears.

I'm such a baby, but it's good to know I'm probably in the right profession.

That Initial Consonant Sound is a Doozy.

I teach in a predominately Hispanic school.

One of my moms sent in "Oh The Places You'll Go" for me to sign for her son. When another student saw me put the book in his take-home folder, he asked:

"Why does he get a Dr. Jesus book?"
