My class read Frindle by Andrew Clements, so we decided to use that theme for the door contest at our school. The story is about a kid that makes up a new word (Frindle) for "pen"and what happens to him and the new word.
I had each student make up a new silly word, and then make a dictionary entry complete with what part of speech it was, a definition, a picture and an example sentence using the word. Then we compiled all the new words and made a class dictionary. ( That is the purple book in the center.) Each student got a copy. Then, I had the kids write their new word in a sentence on the colorful cards. We didn't win, but I loved how it turned out.
